Melting Earth

Inje University / Republic of Korea
Everyone says the era of "boiling Earth" has come beyond the era of "global warming." So, although we have reached the level that we can feel in various climate crises, our behavior has not changed much. If the current situation continues, the future Earth will be too hot to grasp by hand, and also it will escape through the cracks if we try to catch with a net.

Implant surface treatment is a device that helps maintain the best state by creating an implant that loses hydrophilicity with titanium aging. The design feature of this product is a design that avoids the initial investment costs and utilizes small public injections. In order to eliminate the boring look of the large area and the contraction of injections, it was designed to create an identity with a striped pattern.

Adornment can function as an element that magnifies the beauty and increases the value of an object. However, adorned and embellished aspects cannot define the essence of the subject, nor can they replace it. This work conveys the message of desire inherent in the adorned and embellished appearance, thereby raising a question about the nature of true beauty and expressing the weight of desire.

Lean series
Donghoon Sohn
Seoul National University / Republic of Korea
The Lean Series is a vase designed by recycling plastic pellets, which are filament materials for 3D printing. The discarded defective pellets have particles such as a grain of sand and can be adhered to each other through fumigation with a solvent like alcohol. The glass pipes were used as materials to emphasize the tension that was about to collapse, and the pellets tangled with each other during the fumigation process. So, the surface texture of smooth glass and melted pellets, along with various color combinations, is designed to form an aesthetic contrast.

Sea weed planing autonomous robot
손승우Seung Woo Son
Hanyang University / Republic of Korea
Although the coastal ecosystem accounts for only 2% of the total area of the sea, it is known to have excellent carbon absorption capacity to account for about 50% of blue carbon absorbed into the sea. However, due to indiscriminate coastal development and climate change, the environment is destroyed by rising sea level temperatures. Accordingly, it is expected that large-scale blue carbon regeneration will be achieved by developing an autonomous driving robot for adult transplantation that is more efficient than the seed direct method of seaweed.

Utopia—Dystopia

Kangnam University / Republic of Korea
The shaping of the future hovers somewhere between utopia and dystopia. Amidst numerous utopian imaginings, the image of the self is depicted with a sense of serenity. It's a place where an ideal and splendid life is expected, yet limitations within that context are also foreseen. This future self carries a duality, holding a multitude of contrasting experiences and emotions simultaneously.

In applying 3D printing technology as a fashion product, there are still limitations on material properties and technology methods that are less flexible than clothing fabric materials. Still, various wearable designs of 3D printing technology are being attempted through 3D scanning and pattern production of the human body. This design work was completed with a fabric-structured 3D printing design work to fit the body size in a virtual digital 3D space using 3D human body scan data to design women's clothing for 3D printing outputs. Fabric-structured 3D printed 3D digital design work was completed using the Rhino 6.0 CAD software program.

Meta Tag I
오호준Hojun Oh
Kangwon National University / Republic of Korea
‘Meta Tag I’ expresses the change and transcendence of Meta with the movement of power, connection, and harmony. The creation of a meta is possible because there is a link with the connections that maintain the meta. In addition, mutual harmony between them is inevitable. However, if the existence of meta has a tendency to metamorphosis for change, dismantling existing connections and connections is also inevitable. The wiggling new metas in this image are starting to move for transformation as if they are waking up the eggs.

No one can be born or die in this world at will, but as if life is theirs, they are living an ugly life, even breaking the fence called us in order to fill everything for their own happiness and satisfaction in that life, indulging in hateful greed. Aren't you so pathetic? Now, we would like to talk through the ultimate question, “Where are we going?” in order to realize that we were just flowing within the great and great flow of nature given by heaven, and to realize that it is wise to obey it.

My Apple 2
Hyungkun Yoon
Suwon University / Republic of Korea
My apple transforms into a versatile medium that embraces the entirety of the universe. It engages with the world through the symbolic essence of an apple, bridging gaps amidst diverse realms, cultures, and ideas.
Amidst a world rife with chaos—love, peace, war, anger, conflict, and confrontation— my apple steps in to fill and mend. It harmonizes an array of colors and shapes, evoking curiosity and contemplation.
My Apple's design beckons us to embark on a journey through boundless possibilities of connection and convergence, gently reminding us of the latent beauty within even the simplest entities.

The project's intention was to create a desk adorned with decorations that lacked inherent meaning. However, throughout the ideation process, I faced challenges in generating decorations that were truly devoid of purpose. Every decoration I conceived ended up carrying some form of meaning or functionality. Despite producing numerous design ideas, I found myself at a loss about the subsequent steps to take. In the end, I selected a design that didn't resonate with me, and I was uncertain about the reasons behind this choice. Perhaps inadvertently, this particular design could represent the desired desk with decorations devoid of meaning.

Hello Autumn
이명호Myung-Ho Lee

Autumn is the season of humility and gratitude, autumn is the season of abundance and love. Autumn gives us color. If you express autumn with a brush, it is more splendid than flowers, more reddish than spring, and calmer than summer.
It is a splendid performance in preparation for winter. Nature gives us a sense of awe and emotion with inexplicable and subtle colors.
Constructivism in the 20th century opened the era of modernism with extremely simplified and abstracted geometric expressions inspired by nature. The image of autumn, which will be colored with autumn leaves, is fragmented and implemented in pictorial minimalism.

As a new residential area was developed on the outskirts of the city due to a change in the residential environment and high land prices in the original city center, the urban hollowing phenomenon, such as the rapid movement of the population living in the old city center to the new city center, accelerated. Due to changes in educational conditions, such as a decrease in the number of students in the old downtown area, idle school facilities increased due to the consolidation and abolition of small schools in the old downtown area.

ChromaTales: Colors Defining Us
Ji Sun Lee
Sookmyung Women's University / Republic of Korea
Color perception, while a potent facet of human understanding, is inherently subjective, often yielding diverse interpretations of the same shade among distinct individuals. However, the hues that serve as our representation are a vital conduit for expressing and perceiving our identities. Embodied within the venture "ChromaTales: Colors Defining Us," the app serves as a conduit to identify the triad of colors present in people's hair, countenance, and attire. These colors are subsequently exhibited independently, painting a vivid picture of their identities. Through the discerning selection of these personal colors, identities are succinctly and vibrantly communicated through graphic data. As individuals capture or upload images via the app, the software translates the input into real-time color interpretations. These chromatic visualizations are accessible not only to participants in real time but also disseminated across the digital landscape. "ChromaTales" aspires to encapsulate decades of an individual's life through this application, or the collective identity of a group. By employing this visualization process to define individuals by their colors, the initiative endeavors to reinterpret the significance of colors in representing both ourselves and our societal roles.
ChromaTales: Colors that Define Us"는 앱을 통하여 사람들의 머리, 얼굴 및 의복의 세 가지 색상을 인식하고 이를 색깔로만 디스플레이 하여 그들의 정체성을 표현한다.

Moon

The moon is an object that can be seen in the sky. The moon is beyond space, but for us, it is located in the sky. It started with the idea of designing a space where the moon could be floating. In order to express the space fantastically, clouds in the sky were expressed like the sea, and a huge tree that seemed unlikely to be in the space was designed. The shape of the tree was also constructed unrealistically.

A Rabbit's Life (2023) - White Rabbit
Hyeonwoo Lim
Inje University / Republic of Korea
In celebration of the Year of the Rabbit in 2023, four rabbit characters were created. While they initially shared the common trait of being rabbits, their individual stories naturally led them to find their place in the world and live distinct lives. We often set predetermined expectations for the life we should lead and berate ourselves if we don't achieve what society deems a "successful life". However, life is unpredictable, and there is no single correct path to follow. These rabbits live in various forms and lead different lives, connected only by their shared identity as rabbits.

In Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, there is a flat intersection where Bomun-ro 30-gil turns into 34-ga-gil and meets Bomun-ro 34-gil. By capturing satellite images of the intersection in 2010, 2012, and every year from 2014 to 2022, I wanted to reveal the changes in the street. Through this process, I was able to see the compression of time and the expansion of space.

The icon of great king 'Yeongjo'
Soonkyu Jang
Keimyung University / Republic of Korea
Eojin, which is painted during pre-modern times, refers to a portrait of an king. As above, Eojin is valuable as relics representing an era. Most of the eojin of the Korean dynasty "Joseon" was destroyed by the Korean War. For this reason, many people wonder what did the king look like. As great people of the Joseon Dynasty have been mainly printed for bill and coin. So, the appearance of kings of the Joseon Dynasty can be a unique topic of Korea that is able to be used as a design. Therefore, this project is to express about curiosity what would it look like to icon the king based on the remaining Eojin.

Pattern Design Utilizing Object Detection Program
Ikjoon Chang
Chiba University / Japan
These patterns were created for the first-anniversary identity design of the Design Research Institute in Tokyo. Typically, when designers develop the identity for a building or organization, they often select and employ a single representative symbol. However, the identity of this building is not conveyed through a single symbol mark, but rather through the placement of patterns throughout the structure. To achieve this, I combined various shapes and colors to programmatically generate hundreds of patterns. This pattern design was crafted through the following process. Firstly, I captured images that effectively showcased the distinct characteristics of the building. Then, using an Object Detection program, I simplified and transformed these images into vector symbols. Finally, I incorporated 18 colors to symbolize the building, resulting in the creation of hundreds of patterns. These patterns displays some of the patterns that have undergone this process.

I overlapped the lines of the scribble and made black and white photos of the work, cut it out with a graphic tool, made it into a pattern, and cut and paste it again. The lines of scribble are drawn from actions and are an expression of relieving fear and a way to express and vent emotions. The unconscious emotions filled inside are cut and reconstructed through conscious editing. The emotions are repeated over and over to fill themselves up, and at some point, they are transformed into a different look. The repetition of lines, patterns, and editing is a repetition and has temporality.

It's past the season of fresh autumn. The cycle of eternal return is slowly receding, promising next year in the hot summer with the last purity of cicada crying.

Min Hee Jung
Sungkyunkwan University / Republic of Korea
One of a series of works that deal with a small number of mixed language images in a transnational situation. A system of images that exist as text but are not legible constitutes a tool construct that can no longer convey a message. On the other hand, being patterned means that the image becomes more abstract, suggesting different ideas for new print designs.
